Plato (428/427 BC – 348/347 BC) was a Greek philosopher and student of Socrates. He is widely considered to be one of the most important figures in Western philosophy and is famous for his works, which include dialogues such as "The Republic," "Symposium," and "Phaedo."Plato founded the Academy in Athens, which was the first institution of higher learning in the Western world.
