Álvaro d'Ors (1915-2004) was a Spanish philosopher, jurist, and writer who is known for his contributions to the fields of legal philosophy and aesthetics. Born in Madrid, d'Ors studied law and philosophy at the University of Madrid, where he later became a professor. He was also a member of the Spanish Royal Academy of Jurisprudence and Legislation and a founding member of the Spanish Society of Esthetics and Art Theory. D'Ors is known for his work on legal philosophy, particularly his theory of law as a "language of action." He argued that law is a system of communication that is used to regulate human behavior, and that the meaning of legal concepts and rules is determined by their practical application. In addition to his work in legal philosophy, d'Ors also wrote extensively on aesthetics and the philosophy of art. He was particularly interested in the relationship between art and reality, and he argued that art has the ability to reveal fundamental truths about the world and human experience. Some of d'Ors' most famous works include "El Derecho como acto de comunicación" (Law as an Act of Communication), "Estética y teoría de las artes" (Aesthetics and Theory of the Arts), and "El secreto del estilo" (The Secret of Style).
